  • Swimming & Sunbathing: Enjoy a peaceful swim or relax on the shore at one of the lake’s many public access spots or at one of Cabin Rentals.  Please swim at your own risk and help preserve the area by following our “Leave it Like You Found It” policy.

For lunch, pack a picnic and enjoy it at one of the many scenic spots around the lake. In the afternoon, consider a leisurely hike on one of the nearby trails or rent a kayak for a peaceful paddle.

Day 3: Exploring the Local Charm Spend your third day exploring the local area. Visit nearby Dandridge, one of Tennessee’s oldest towns, for a dose of history and charm.

  • Historical Sites: Tour the Dandridge Historic District Dandridge is Tennessee’s second oldest town.
  • Shopping: Browse the quaint shops and pick up some unique souvenirs.
  • Local Cuisine: Enjoy a meal at Tinsley-Bible Drug Co., a historic soda fountain and diner.

Immersing in the Majesty of the Great Smoky Mountains

Transition to the Mountains Leave the tranquility of Douglas Lake behind and head towards the majestic Great Smoky Mountains. Douglas Lake is positioned between Dandridge and Sevierville Tennessee. The drive is short but scenic, offering stunning views of rolling hills and lush forests. 

 Spend the evening getting acquainted with your new surroundings. Take a short hike or simply relax on the porch, enjoying the beautiful lake and mountain views.

Day 5: Hiking and Wildlife Watching The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a hiker’s paradise. Start your day early with a hearty breakfast and then hit the trails.

  • Popular Hikes:
    • Alum Cave Trail: A moderate hike with stunning views.
    • Kuwohi ( formerly Clingmans Dome): The highest point in the park, offering panoramic vistas.
    • Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail: A great way to see the beauty of the Smokies from your car.
    • Cades Cove Scenic Loop This is a busy but beautiful drive thru Cades Cove. Rich with scenery and wildlife.  Also a couple of hiking trails.  Bring your patience.  They also allow bikes as well.  Its an 11 mile loop.  Check their site for no car days.

Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. The park is home to black bears, deer, and a plethora of bird species. Pack a lunch to enjoy on the trail, and make sure to carry plenty of water.

Day 6: Exploring Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge No trip to the Smokies is complete without visiting the vibrant towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

End your day with a dinner show in Pigeon Forge. Options like Dolly Parton’s Stampede offer a unique dining experience with live entertainment.

Relax and Reflect On your final day, take it easy. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, perhaps with a view of the mountains. There are a lot of pancake breakfast houses in the area. Spend the morning on a gentle nature walk or visit a local artisan shop for some last-minute souvenirs.
