Douglas Lake Cleanup is Complete & Ready for Summer Fun!
Great news for our lake lovers and vacation guests!
We’re excited to share that the Douglas Lake Debris Removal Project—led by local, state, and federal agencies—is officially complete following the impact of Tropical Storm Helene.
This means cleaner shorelines, safer waters, and one more reason to enjoy everything Douglas Lake has to offer this season.
Shady Grove Boat Launch Reopening Soon
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is now working 7 days a week to fully demobilize equipment and reopen the Shady Grove Boat Launch as soon as possible. We’ll continue to provide updates as we receive them, but the finish line is in sight!
A Living, Breathing Lake
As a river-fed reservoir, Douglas Lake is part of a dynamic, natural system. Its water levels and flow change with the seasons, and from time to time, natural debris will find its way into the lake. While TVA has made every effort to restore Douglas Lake to better-than-before conditions, it’s important to remember that a little floating wood or natural drift is just nature doing its thing.
This is not a sign of neglect—it’s a sign of a healthy, ever-changing ecosystem.
Water Quality: Safe & Sparkling
We’re also thrilled to share that water quality is officially in great shape:
- As of January 15, 2025, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) lifted the water contact advisory.
- Routine monthly sampling by TVA began in April and continues through October.
- Results for April and May confirm good water quality—Douglas Lake is open and safe for swimming, boating, and all your favorite water activities.
